What is Plexr?

Plexr Plus is a non-surgical treatment for eyelid lift, skin laxity, scars, moles, skin tags and other superficial skin lesions. It uses plasma technology, and is performed using wireless handheld devices from Italy. It is the first fully licensed plasma technology in Canada and it does not require general anesthesia and has a shorter recovery time compared to surgical treatments.

It uses the difference in voltage between the device and the patient's skin to generate a small electrical arc, which causes sublimation of the superficial part of the skin, preserving the lower layers and reducing the potential of permanent skin damage.

Benefits of Plexr

  • Absence of risks and permanent side effects
  • Very little perceived pain; 30 minutes before treatment a local anesthetic cream is applied
  • Rapid recovery time
  • Lower costs compared to traditional surgery

What to Expect?

Patients can expect to receive a local or topical anesthetic cream, which takes about 45 minutes to take effect, depending on the area being treated. No injections or general anesthesia is required, and the procedure can be done in the clinic.

Non-surgical eyelid lifts (blepharoplasty) will be done with the anesthetic cream while moles and keloid scars may require an injection. Treatment time varies from 10 to 40 minutes. Some patients have reported no pain with the anesthetic cream, however, the treatment area around the eyes may still feel uncomfortable and prickly.

How Does it Work?

Plexr Plus is a device that uses plasma technology by ionizing gas particles between its 0.5mm-wide probe and the skin to create an electrical arc, making it very precise for treating specific areas such as the eyelids without harming the surrounding skin.

The technology creates a "lightning bolt" effect that vaporizes unwanted skin cells, leaving behind a crust that eventually heals and tightens remaining tissue while boosting collagen production. It can be used for a wide range of issues such as non-surgical eyelid lifts, wrinkles, superficial skin lesions, scars, acne, and keloid scars.

Plexr Plus FAQs

What is Plexr Plus?

Plexr Plus (or plasma soft sugery) is a non-surgicaltreatment used to lift the eyes (blepharoplasty), by treating the skin laxity. It is also used to improve scars, treat moles, skin tags and other unwantedsuperficial skin lesions. Unlike surgical treatments for these problems, PlexrPlus does not require general anesthetic and recovery time is much shorter.

The treatment uses plasma – the fourth state of matter aftersolid, liquid, and gas – and is performed using wireless handheld devices whichare manufactured in Italy. The Plexr Plus Soft Surgery device has been used andlicensed in several countries worldwide over the last 10 years. It is the firstfully licensed plasma technology to be introduced in Canada.

What does Plexr Plus treat?

The Plexr Plus can be used for the following treatmentapplications:

·     Skin laxity

·     Wrinkles and Rhytides (eg. Barcode lines toupper lip)

·     Benign skin lesions (eg. Skin tags and certainmoles)

·     Acne scarring

·     Non-surgical blepharoplasty

How does Plexr Plus work?

Plexr Plus generates a plasma arc between the end of theprobe and your skin, instantly sublimating the tissue that it contacts andcauses contraction of the elastin tissues around the affected area. Thisprocess improves skin contour and textures as well as eliminating skin laxityvia removing small amounts of tissue as well as improving the tightness of thetreated areas. Not only does it eliminate tissue and causes contraction of thesurrounding tissue, but it is also the only treatment on the market thatstimulates the growth of type 3 collagen underneath which is the same collagenthat is present in baby skin.

How much improvement can I expect from a procedure?

Because we are eliminating small amounts of tissue at atime, we can expect an improvement of 30-35% per treatment.

Will I require more than one procedure?

Depending on the desired level of improvement, more than onetreatment may be required. In most instances, at least 2 treatments are neededto achieve desired results.

How long do the results last?

The results are essentially permanent until the naturalaging process catches up and causes additional skin laxity. We can normallyexpect results to be maintained for 5 years before a touch up treatment isneeded.

How long has this technology been around?

This treatment originated in Italy and has been used safelyfor the past 10 years with minimal side effects.

Is there any downtime after treatment?

Yes. It takes 5-7 days for the carbon scabs from theprocedure to fall off. In this time, there is no functional downtime in thatyou can still perform your activities of daily living and most work withouthinderance but there is the aesthetic aspect that some people may be moreself-conscious of.

What does recovery look like?

After treatment, the patient is left with a carbon scab overthe treated area that takes 5-7 days to fall off. The patient may alsoexperience some swelling and irritation to the area for the first 3 days as thearea recovers. It is also highly recommended that the patient does not get thearea wet for the first 4 days as that may prolong the healing time. After thecarbon scabs fall off, the skin may remain a little red for up to 4 weeks.

Is the treatment painful?

We apply a topical numbing compound to the skin beforetreatment to minimize pain and discomfort. However, some areas are more sensitivethan others and despite the numbing cream, the patient may experience morediscomfort in some areas than others.

How long do I have to wait between treatments?

Ideally, we need to wait at least 6 weeks or until all theredness from the last treatment has subsided, whichever is longer.

Are there any aftercare instructions I need to be awareof?

The new skin revealed after the carbon scabs fall off ishighly sensitive to sunlight and can darken very quickly if not protected. Themost important thing after treatment is to apply sunscreen daily and evenmultiple times a day for at least the first 30 days to preventhyperpigmentation of the treated area(s).

What are the short-term side effects after treatment?

As mentioned above, there can be some residual redness tothe treated areas after the carbon scabs have fallen off that may last up to amonth.

The treated areas may also hyper pigment (get darker than thesurrounding skin) if sunscreen is not applied judiciously for the first monthafter treatment.

Are there any long-term side effects after treatment?

Individuals with darker skin may experience long-termhypopigmentation (lightening of the skin) to the treated areas that may persistfor several months.

The treated areas may also have a different texture than thesurrounding skin that may persist for the first few months after treatment.

How does Plexr Plus treatment to the upper eyelidcompared to surgical blepharoplasty (having the excess skin removedsurgically)?

Plexr Plus is a great alternative for those who areconsidering surgical blepharoplasty to remove excess skin to the upper eyelid.Compared to surgery, the patient does not have to be placed under generalanesthetic so there is no risk of respiratory or cardiovascular complications. There are no incisions made so there is little risk of scarring compared tosurgery. Lastly, this treatment does not require expensive surgery time so resultscan be had for a fraction of the cost of surgery.

The only thing is that more than one treatment may berequired to achieve desired results but that’s minor compared to the risk andcost of doing this procedure surgically.
